Os exames e tal

Faz tanto tempo que escrevi!

I havea date set for my Ph.D. Quals. They start April 4! The oral defense is April 27! I am relieved to have a set date to look forward to/dread. I still have to read a few items & clean up a few bureacratic bits, but I am muchly pleased. Now, I also have to write my dissertation proposal! ACK!

Class today went all right, but I had to hand back some papers that were good but kind of "meh." In other words, it was hard to describe exactly what was wrong with them, but they lacked that certain spark that equals a juicy grade. A lot of them lacked cohesive organization. That can work for a conversation or even a blog ;), but for a formal writing assignment, I think it is imperative that they at least have a formula for organization. I gave them one today. I hope they take it to heart & mind because it will be helpful, & not just for this class. Still, they seem like very bright & hardworking students. Hopefully, this is true.

They predict sun tomorrow. Haven't seen it in ages. It seems like the majority of days since November have been sunless. Funk dat!
